In a move that was expected for some time, the Los Angeles Dodgers have finally cut veteran Doug Mientkiewicz.

It was reported last week that Mientkiewicz had been asked by manager Joe Torre to remain with the club as a coach, but he has a desire to play in the big leagues and will seek opportunities elsewhere.

Mientkiewicz, 35, hit .333 (6 for 18) in 20 games with the Dodgers in 2009. You can see Mientkiewicz’ contract details and statistics here.

The team also announced that three one-time Los Angeles Angels have made the 25-man roster: Garret Anderson, Ramon Ortiz and Jeff Weaver.

“Garret, barring anything unforeseen at this point and time, is on the team,” Torre said. “And so is Ramon Ortiz, and Jeff Weaver.”
