Giants place OF Aaron Rowand on 15-day DL

By Allan

The Associated PressAaron Rowand reports that the San Francisco Giants have placed Aaron Rowand on the 15-day disabled list. Rowand was hit in the head by a fastball from Dodgers’ Vincente Padilla, leaving him with two small fractures in his left cheekbone and giving him a mild concussion.

“I didn’t want to go on the disabled list, but I don’t have ‘MD.’ behind my name,” Rowand said.

“I’m going up to San Francisco tonight and meeting with all the doctors and come up with a game plan,” he added. “And if I do have surgery, it’ll be tomorrow sometime and they’ll put three plates in my face to try to speed the healing process. If not, I’ll be in San Diego tomorrow with the team. But right now it’s up in the air. Hazards of the trade, I guess. I’m lucky it’s not worse.”

In his place the Giants have recalled infielder Matt Downs from Triple-A Fresno. Andres Torres and Eugenio Velez will take over Rowand’s spot in center field depending on the matchup.
