Oakland Athletic Jack Cust clears waivers

4/9 12:25: Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says that Cust has not accepted a Minor League assignment and has not made a decision. He has 72 hours to decide.
4/8 20:37: According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, former Oakland Athletics OF/DH Jack Cust has cleared waivers. It is not know whether or not he will accept a Minor League assignment. In a surprising move, the A’s designated Cust for assignment on April 3.
In January, Cust signed a one-year $2.65 million deal to return to the Oakland Athletics. With incentives, Cust could have made $3 million.
Cust earned $2.8 million in 2009 with the A’s while hitting 25 home runs, driving in 70 runs and hitting .240 over 149 games. You can see Cust’s contract history and statistics here.
