Adam Dunn contract rumors: Open to extension talks

4/5 11:34: Buster Olney of ESPN tweets, “There are no on-going contract talks involving the Nationals and Dunn.”

4/4 18:42: Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post says that Washington Nationals’ first baseman Adam Dunn is open to negotiating a contract extension into the early part of the season. Dunn has a preference to say in Washington and is comfortable in continuing the negotiations.

“If it gets done in two weeks, if it gets done in a month, great,” Dunn said. “If it doesn’t, then like I said, we’ve got all off-season. This is the place I want to be at. I want to be here. This team is obviously going in the right direction. I’m all for it. That’s why I don’t want to deter anybody away. I like being here.

On Thursday, General Manager Mike Rizzo said of talks with Dunn’s representatives, “We’re in communication. There’s dialogue. I’ll probably leave it at that.”

Dunn is in the second year of of a two-year, $20 million contract. In mid-March, Dunn’s agent, Greg Genske, said the negotiations are “amicable and upbeat,” and he optimistic about getting a deal done.

Dunn, 30, is a popular player with the Nationals’ fans. He hit .267 with 38 home runs and 105 RBIs in the 2009 season. You can see Dunn’s contract details and statistics here.
