PRO Rumors: Hayden Penn, Jose Veras, James Loney, Kris Benson, Brandon Webb

By Allan

Here are your Friday afternoon “time to paaarrttttaaayyy” PRO Rumors:

  • PRO Rumors writer Ryan says that he’s so confident that his Dodgers will sweep the Giants this weekend that if they don’t, he’ll stop writing for PRO Rumors and chase his lifelong dream and become a backup dancer for teen sensation Justin Bieber.
  • Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com says that Hayden Penn has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis. He has until Monday to report or declare himself a free agent.
  • Marlins right-handed pitcher Jose Veras has been outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans. Veras was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
  • Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times says that James Loney almost got his wish to pitch a game in the Major Leagues when the Dodgers were running out pitchers on their Wednesday game with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • Kris Benson was announced as the Diamondback’s number five starter and will face the San Diego Padres on Saturday. (Nick Piecoro, The Arizona Republic)
  • Brandon Webb could be moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to allow the Arizona Diamondbacks to add Benson to the 25-man and 40-man rosters. If this occurs, Webb will not be eligible to be activated until May 25, which is an optimistic return date. (Nick Piecoro, The Arizona Republic)
