Ike Davis New York MetsMike Puma of The New York Times reports that rookie sluggers Ike Davis of the New York Mets “is likely headed to Citi Field in the next day or two.”
“He’s an exciting young talent,” manager Jerry Manuel said. “And we’ve witnessed some young talents do well here at the major-league level.”

The Mets were hoping Daniel Murphy would be the team’s full-time first baseman, but he strained a medial collateral ligament in his right knee during a rundown near the end of Spring Training.

The team also DFA’d first baseman Mike Jacobs on Sunday opening up a spot on the 40-man roster which presumably will be assigned to Davis.

Davis is hitting .364/.500/.636 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs in Triple-A Buffalo.

Matthew Clemens Phillies fanDeadspin received a tip of the “blow-by-blow” account of the Matthew Clemens incident where he threw up on the 11 year old girl. The website does not claim the validity of the story since it came from a reader’s tip.

Here’s the instant messenger/Twitter style account of the incident

phillies game last night
great seats
16 rows from the dugout
sitting with sunny
my uncle and cousin a few rows ahead
uncle mike
so there are 2 rows of ROWDY fans
and i think they were really bothering this guy and his family
they all get booted
except one guy
this 300 LB probably mid 20s kid
hes sitting htere hammered
and talkign sh*t
i cant tell whats really going on
but apparently he either threatened or threw something at this mid 50s guys daughter
50s guy is a normal guy with ihs daughter and wife
and this kid is FAT i mean BIG
so he must have either spilled or said somehting and they are one row over so im watching out of the corner of my eye
this 50 year old guy gets up and whacks the fat kid in the face…kind of a push punch
not like a hard punch
kind of a “what the f*ck do you tihnk your doing” punch
and the big guy gets up and starts throwing HAYMAKERS
so i see this small guy get up and try to break it up…so i fire outa my seat and jump over 2 dudes and help the guy
just instinctively i mean your sitting with tons of kids in a nice section of the park you dont want to see a dad fighting some dude twice his size
so i get in between the big dude and the old dude and me and three guys throw this guy to the ground
in the middle of the aisle
everyone watching intently
and this dude is struggling to get up
and its taking me and 2 other dudes all we had to keep him down
hes on one knee, face in the seat, i got my hands on his shoulders and his left arm, this other guys got his hand on the back of his neck and the third guy is holding his right arm down
the old guy is fine now hes trying to talk to the kid
this other old guy
must be in his late 50s
fire fighter
he is the one holding this guy by the neck
so think of this guys right hand is on the back of his neck, kids face in the seat
kid makes a VIOLENT move to get up
almost knocks all of us back and starts flailing
old 50 year old firefighter dude with on hand on the kids neck, BURRIES him with a left to the eye
really kind of a sucker punch
i was like whoa dude easy thats uncessary
kid slumps down to one knee and crushes his head on the seat
we are yelling for security at this point
event staff is there and they are saying they cant touch the kid they hvae to wait for security
so we are holding him and the crowd is going NUTS
drunk fans in front of us SCREAMING a tthe top of their lungs”HEY YOU FAT IDIOT YOU CANT DRINK AND NOW YOU GOT KNOCKED OUT”
when the guy hit him the whole crowd colletively goes EWWWWWWWWWWW
then out of nowhere, fat kids head moves…s
wait for it
starts PROJECTILE vomitting all over the place
people are jumping out of there seats
the guy holding his right arm is COVERED in puke
i jump back and dont get hit
this kid is now laying in his own puke, bleeding, and the crowd gets worse
starts chanting “f*ggot”
then finaly security comes, the kid jumps up, puts up two middle fingers and screams “F*CK ALL YOU F*GGOTS!”
and gets SLAMMED again
his gf comes running down the stairs “dont hurt him!”
she gets brushed aside and security escorts him out
little kids were balling, parents were frightened, drunk kids were fired up

trainHere’s a semi-amusing story that slipped through the cracks.  According to Stationstop, instead of informing passengers of train service to Yankee Stadium, the MTA announced this over the speakers:

“Due to police activity, all train service has been suspended indefinitely. The police department has asked that everyone immediately leave the train station and maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from railroad property.”

The annoucement was a mixup and no explosive device was found.

David Lennon of Newsdays tweets,ike_davis “Ike’s got to be coming. Could have just optioned Jacobs to Buffalo. DFA move opens 40-man spot, which need to do for Davis.”

Davis is hitting .364/.500/.636 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs in Triple-A Buffalo.

Earlier today, Adam Rubin of ESPN said that the Mets had DFA’d first baseman Mike Jacobs. In a parallel move, right-hander Tobi Stoner was called up to take Jacobs’ spot on the active roster.

Mike JacobsAdam Rubin of ESPN tweets that New York Mets first baseman Mike Jacobs has been designated for assignment. Right-hander Tobi Stoner was called up to take Jacobs’ spot on the roster.

Jacobs, 29, was hitting .167 with 1 home run in 5 games with the Mets this season. You can see Jacob’s statistics here.

The Associated PressAaron Rowand reports that the San Francisco Giants have placed Aaron Rowand on the 15-day disabled list. Rowand was hit in the head by a fastball from Dodgers’ Vincente Padilla, leaving him with two small fractures in his left cheekbone and giving him a mild concussion.

“I didn’t want to go on the disabled list, but I don’t have ‘MD.’ behind my name,” Rowand said.

“I’m going up to San Francisco tonight and meeting with all the doctors and come up with a game plan,” he added. “And if I do have surgery, it’ll be tomorrow sometime and they’ll put three plates in my face to try to speed the healing process. If not, I’ll be in San Diego tomorrow with the team. But right now it’s up in the air. Hazards of the trade, I guess. I’m lucky it’s not worse.”

In his place the Giants have recalled infielder Matt Downs from Triple-A Fresno. Andres Torres and Eugenio Velez will take over Rowand’s spot in center field depending on the matchup.

Russ Ortiz4/18 13:37: Ken Gurnick of MLB.com adds that the Dodgers recalled rookie Jon Link. Link was acquired from the White Sox in the Juan Pierre trade and has a 6.23 ERA in 4/13 innings over 5 appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque.

Gurnick added that Ortiz’s inability to close out one-sided games “sealed his fate.”

4/18 13:26: According to San Jose Mercury’s Andrew Baggarly, the Los Angeles Dodgers have designated for assignment right-handed pitche Russ Ortiz.

Ortiz, 35, was 0-1 with a 10.29 ERa in 6 appearances for the Dodgers this year.  You can see Ortiz’s statistics here.

Ubaldo JimenezUbaldo Jimenez’s no hitter against he Atlanta Braves on Saturday gave the Rockies their first franchise no-hitter. Now that you can scratch the Rockies off the list, only three teams are left waiting for their first no-no: the Tampa Bay Rays, the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets.

Tom Singer of MLB.com mentions that despite only having 27 teams on the winning side of a no-hitter, all 30 Major League teams have been no-hit with the most frequent victims being the Padres seven times and the Mets six times.

Singer puts out a list of each of the franchises’ no-hitters. A few notable no-hitters include:

  • Cy Young throwing the first no-hitter for the Boston Red Sox against the Athletics on May 5, 1904.
  • Randy Johnson threw the first no-hitters for both the Seattle Mariner’s franchise (6/2/1990 vs the Tigers) and the Arizona Diamondback’s franchise (5/18/2004 which also happened to be a perfect game).
  • The Reds have the oldest no-hitter of the active franchises – Nixey Callahan threw a no-no against the Phillies on July 12, 1900.
  • The Red Sox (Indians, Twins and Yankees) and the Braves (Cardinals, D-Backs and Rockies) were each the victims of three franchises first no-hitters.
