Washington Nationals release OF Elijah Dukes and Logan Kensing

By Allan

According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, the Washington Nationals have released right fielder Elijah Dukes and right-handed pitcher Logan Kensing.

Dukes was expected to be the Nationals’ starting right fielder, but his poor Spring offense sealed his fate. He was 3 for 20 (.143) with five strikeouts.  Justin Maxwell and Roger Bernadina will compete for the starting right field job.

Dukes, 25, hit .250 with 8 home runs and 58 RBIs in 107 games with the Nationals in 2009. You can see Dukes’ contract details and statistics here.

Kensing was sent to the Minor League camp last week, but was told yesterday that he was no longer needed. Kensing, 27, was 1-1 with a 8.68 ERA in 26 appearances with the Nationals in 2009. You can see Kensing’s statistics here.
