3/26: 16:41: According to Amalie Banjamin of The Boston Globe, she tweets, “Schoeneweis will make $500,000 if he makes the big league club, per team source.”
3/26: 13:57: According to Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com, the Boston Red Sox have sign left-handed pitcher Scott Schoeneweis to a Minor League deal.
Rob Bradford of WEEI.com adds that Schoeneweis has an April 15 opt-out. In the event the pitcher is not on the Big League club, he has the option to get his release on April 15 and seek employment elsewhere.
Schoeneweis was released by the Brewers earlier this week. In seven outings this Spring, Schoeneweis allowed seven hits, six runs in seven innings of work.
The pitcher suspects that his wife’s death due to a drug overdose last year could be a reason that he was released. “I’m a big-league player,” he said. “My wife died last year. That has nothing to do with me as a baseball player. To have to start over and be penalized doesn’t make sense to me.”
The 36-year-old pitcher was 1-2 with a 7.13 ERA in 45 appearances with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009. Schoeneweis is represented by agent Scott Boras. You can see Schoeneweis’ contract details and statistics here.
