PRO Rumors: Tomo Ohka, Cliff Lee trade rumors with Rockies, Mets and Kiko Calero, Cubs and Carlos Silva

By Allan

Here are your Wednesday morning PRO Rumors:

  • According to Sanspo.com (via NPB Tracker), Tomo Ohka was released by the Mexican League team, Quintana Roo. Ohka last pitched with the Cleveland Indians in 2009 going 1-5 with a 5.96 ERA in 18 games (6 games started).
  • Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post says the Rockies have the prospects to deal for a Cliff Lee come trade deadline, but they don’t want to be in a position to pay $100 million or more to re-sign after the  season. Renck goes on to say that he would not be surprised if the Mariners give Lee a monster deal at some point this season.
  • Although Kiko Calero did not find a job until the beginning of Spring Training with the New York Mets, the New York Post says that Calero is in the race for the 8th inning setup job. The race opened up when Kelvim Escobar came into camp not healthy. Calero is competing with Japanese right-hander Ryota Iragashi and top prospect Jenrry Mejia.
  • The Chicago Sun-Times says that Carlos Silva is close to securing a rotation spot with the Chicago Cubs after he pitched four scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers. ”You can’t throw the ball better than he did today,” said manager Lou Piniella.
