PRO Rumors: Tim Redding, Russell Martin, Cubs, Blanton, Osuna, Orvella, Foppert, Papelbon
By AllanSpring Training is winding down, and we’re in the middle of bunch of Minor League assignments, trades, contracts and everything else:
- Thomas Harding of MLB.com said that Tim Redding has been assigned to Triple-A Colorado Spring.
- Russell Martin of the Los Angeles Dodgers played six innings today in his attempt to return from a groin injury. (Tony Jackson, ESPN)
- The Cubs will use an outfield by committee with Alfonso Soriano, Marlon Byrd, Kosuke Fukudome and Xavier Nady. (Carrie Muskat, MLB.com)
- Todd Zolecki of MLB.com says that the Phillies Joe Blanton has tweaked his left oblique muscle. If Blanton cannot pitch for an extended period of time, right-hander Kyle Kendrick could take his spot in the rotation.
- Left-handed pitcher Edgar Osuna was outrighted to the Royal’s Double-A team today. (Bob Dutton, Kansas City Star)
- Right-handed pitcher Chad Orvella was released by the Angels today. (Matt Eddy, Baseball America)
- Dodgers released outfielder Brian Barton. (Matt Eddy, Baseball America)
- Jesse Foppert was released by the Florida Marlins. Foppert was a former top prospect of the San Francisco Giants. (Matt Eddy, Baseball America)
- Josh Papelbon, Jonathan Papelbon’s younger brother, was released by the Red Sox. (Matt Eddy, Baseball America)
