Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants entered the game today at first base at the top of the sixth inning. According to Andrew Baggerly of the San Jose Mercury, the Giants were short on infield bodies today and they need to fill out the field for the split squads.
A few baseball injuries courtesy of Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus: Jason Grilli will be out for the season due to a quad tear and Russell Martin is headed for an MRI for a groin injury.
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury talks about the Giant’s options for their #5 starter: Madison Bumgarner (favorite), Joe Martinez, Kevin Pucetas and Steve Johnson.
Bruce Jenkins of The San Francisco Chronicle says that pitcher Ben Sheets would risk injury again this year. “They (Brewers) couldn’t have handled me differently. I was on the bump (mound) – I wasn’t taking myself out of there. If I could go back, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d go out there and be willing to blow my arm out again.”
The Diamondbacks are preparing themselves for a limited season with Brandon Webb. “If we get 30 starts from him, great,” General Manager Josh Byrnes said Friday. “If we get 20, that’s great. We just need to get it right.” Webb is expected to start the season on the disabled list. (Nick Piecoro, Arizona Republic)
According to Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald, the Cubs are shot on right-handed help in the bullpen and are expected to find a reliever via trade and not free agency.
Juan C. Rodriguez of The Sun Sentinel says that former Major League manager Bobby Valentine is not looking to manage the Florida Marlins yet. Valentine was spotted taking notes at the Marlins-Cardinals game. It was rumored that he was going to take the Marlins managerial job last October.
