PRO Rumors: Fielder, Yankees, Red Sox, Washburn, Webb, Royals, Mets and Molina

By Allan

One last round of Friday night PRO Rumors:

  • According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports, the contract floor for Prince Fielder’s next contract may be a five-years, $95 million. Rosenthal breaks it down to $15 million for his final year of arbitration and $20 million in his first four free-agent years.
  • Peter Gammons of MLB.com suggests that Major League Baseball break up the Yankees and Red Sox into different division to slow down the economic impact. “That way, the Yankees and Red Sox won’t be competing with one another,” says one official, “and reacting to every move the other makes.”
  • Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com says that teams are interested in left-handed pitcher Jarrod Washburn, but no deal is close. Morosi suggests that the Seattle Mariners could use Washburn.
  • Jerry Crasnick of Yahoo Sports says that despite the possibility of Brandon Webb missing the beginning of the season while on the disabled list, the Diamondbacks are not interested in Braden Looper or Jarrod Washburn or other free agents on the market.
  • Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star says the Kansas City Royals management team is impressed on Cuban defector Noel Arguelles. Arguelles signed a guaranteed $7 million contract in January.
  • Jesse Spector of The New York Daily news says that the Mets were never serious about signing catcher Bengie Molina this off season. Rather it was a PR ploy.
