This is exactly the point: YOU wouldn't have decided to leave; YOU can't understand a player's desire to move on; YOU would regret it looking back over time. Just because you believe that if God gave you some skill or ability you should absolutely go forward with it, doesn't mean that someone else feels the same. Again, baseball is just a job. It is nothing more. If he was an accountant fresh out of college and realized he hated his job, you wouldn't hesitate to tell him to move on. "You're young, you have time to figure out what you want to do, don't get stuck doing something you hate." Baseball is no different. Just because it was your dream growing up, doesn't mean it was his.

If god gave me the talent to swing bat or throw ball better than 99.9999% of all people on this planet, I think it's my responsibility to go with that gift and see where it takes me. If this guy is a top 10 prospect, he's probably 20-22 y.o. It's absurd to quit this early in the game. He's played the game since he was probably 5 and probably ruled every Little League, city league, high school league that he played in and to give it up is ridiculous. If I had the opportunity to play ball and make a living, I would do it in heartbeat, yet I'm slaving away everyday. In a couple of years, he'll realize his decision to quit was a big mistake and it'll be too late. He can come back, but he won't be the same. What a waste.
