David Waldstein of the New York Times says that injured Mets reliever Kelvim Escobar is confident that he will recover from shoulder soreness and play this season, but if he cannot, he will be happy with retirement.
Escobar last pitched in the Venezulan winter league, but has not thrown a ball since December 18. His plan is to work with physical threrapist Chris Correnti and play catch in about two weeks. He’s open for surgery, but only if it will lead him down a path to pitch again.
Escobar, 33, last full season was with the Angels in 2007 when he went 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA. You can see Escobar’s contract history and statistics here.
