3/4 20:05: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports tweets, “#Rays also made Blalock minor-league offer. Team not interested in bidding contest. Branyan was more appealing. Blalock can’t play OF.”

3/4 14:16: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports adds “#Marlins made minor-league offer to Blalock several weeks ago. Does not appear to be a front-burner item.”

3/4 14:04: Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated says that free agent slugger Hank Blalock may be headed to the Florida Marlins or Tampa Bay Rays.

Over the last few weeks, the Marlins have been rumored to have Blalock on their radar. Scott Boras is Blalock’s agent, and it would not be a surprise if he’s delaying the deal for his client to squeeze out every last penny from his future employer.

Blalock, 29, hit 25 home runs in 2009 for the Texas Rangers, but had a .277 on-base percentage, a very unattractive statistic for teams needing a left-handed hitter. You can see Blalock’s contract history and statistics here.
