Erik Bedard takes first step in recovery

By Ryan

-Erik Bedard took his first big step today as he recovers from surgery as he threw 20 pitches off of the mound for the first time.  Some of the people watching Bedard throw included general manager Jack Zduriencik, special assistant Tony Blengino, manager Don Wakamatsu, pitching coach Rick Adair, two other coaches and two trainers.  The session lasted 6 minutes and the 20 pitches were “all strikes” according to Bedard.

The Mariners had estimated that Bedard would be ready to pitch by June.  Bedard is currently ahead of the time table set by the Mariners.  Don’t look for him to be pitching before June as he has a history of injuries.  When Bedard is healthy, he has shown the ability to transform into an ace.
