Could RHP Mike MacDougal be Minnesota bound?
ByThe Florida Marlins released right-handed pitcher Mike MacDougal this morning, and could he be a candidate for the Minnesota Twins’ vacant closing role. MacDougal has previous experience as a closer with 70 career saves.
Currently the Twins’ internal candidates to close include Jon Rauch, Matt Guerrier, Jose Mijares and Jesse Crain. Francisco Liriano was a candidate to close, but Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said, “We told him, ‘We’re getting you ready to start the season as one of our starters.’ If there is any decisions otherwise, we would go talk to him or anybody else we decided to do that with.” (Star Tribune)
MacDougal, 33, was 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and had 20 saves for the Washington Nationals in 2009. You can see MacDougal’s contract details and statistics here.
