All Star Outfielder Brian Giles announces retirement

According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, outfielder Brian Giles has announced his retirement.

Giles signed a Minor League contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in early February. It was rumored at the time that 8-10 teams were interested in the outfielder.

Giles, 39, hit .191 (43 for 225) with 2 home runs and 23 RBIs in 61 games for the San Diego Padres in 2009. He was an All Star in 2000 and 2001 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his 15 season career, Giles hit .291 with 287 home runs and 1078 RBIs with the Indians, Pirates and Padres. You can see Giles’ contract history and statistics here.
