Little poker if thats the case Its the best move the cardinals could make. I know a person who knows a pujols family member who says pujols does not want to leave st. louis he and his family are very happy here and have no intention of leaving…….

I have from good sources that Pujols and the Cardinals will be holding a presser before the end of spring training to announce his new contract. Look for 8-10 years with a avg of 22-23. Also a lifetime contract for personal service once he retires.

I looked over the articles on PRO Rumors where Strauss was used, and he never broke a story He conveniently followed-up a big news story with a slightly varied version of his own.

He’s a reporter, and he’s here to give the audience the news and be entertaining. The sports rumor mill is similar to being a weather forecaster.

So el diablo, what do you think Pujols will end up doing?

Since this entire rumor is based on what Joe Strauss thinks, it should be noted that he gave the Cardinals less than a 20% chance to sign Holiday. Although he’s a good baseball writer, he has no special knowledge of contract negotiations or the Cardinals financial plans. He’s also an accomplished twitter troll.

I agree and I think they made a mistake to sign Holliday to a deal like when they had no other competition for him. The signing of Holiiday could limit what the Cards can do with Pujols.

So what’s Pujols worth? $30 million/season? If the cards sign pujols for a long-term deal, the team will be spending 40% of their payroll on two players (w/ Holliday). That’s crazy. Can they pay 23 other players with 60% of their payroll? I don’t think so. That’s a recipe for disaster. The cards don’t have an unlimited budget like the yanks or red sox. Pujols will be foolish to give a discount.

It would be great for Cardinal fans if Pujols took a hometown discount as it would allow more payroll flexibility to continue to be an elite team. Pujols could also defer some money towards the later years of the contract or even after the contract is up. With that said Pujols is in the top 3 players in the league and deserves to be payed accordingly. If the Cardinals just forked out a 7yr $120MM contract to Holliday they can’t scream that they don’t have any money. Pujols is a level above Holliday and has every right to be paid that way too. I see Pujols getting paid more than Holliday but I do not forsee him demanding to be paid the highest in baseball.
