According to Buster Olney of ESPN, free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba has agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million deal with the San Diego Padres.
Torrealba will earn $750,000 in salary this season and will receive a $500,000 buyout if the Padres and the catcher do not exericise a mutual option for the 2011 season worth $3.5 million.
The catchwer turned down a two-year $5.6 million offer from the Colorado Rockies earlier this Winter. The free agent catcher was close to signing with the Giants or Mets at some point during the off season.
Torrealba, 31, had a batting average of .291 with 2 home runs and 31 RBIs in 64 games with the Rockies in 2009. You can see Torrealba’s contract history and statistics here.
