According to Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com, the New York Yankees have announced the signing of outfielder Marcus Thames to a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training.
Thames will have the opportunity to win the the starting left field job. Recently signed Randy Winn and Brett Gardner are also vying for the left field position.
Thames, 33 by Opening Day, hit 13 home runs, drove in 36 RBI’s and batted .252 in 86 games for the 2009 Tigers as a designated hitter. Thames has drawn interest from the Tigers, Indians and Royals this off season. You can see Thames’ contract history and statistics here.
