Rich Aurilia Rumors: One final season with the Mets or Yankees

By Allan

According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury, long time infield veteran Rich Aurilia isn’t ready to walk away from the game of baseball yet. The Brooklyn native is hoping that he could land with either the New York Yankees or New York Mets for one last season.

He’s been working out for the past two months, taking swings and doing baseball work, hoping a team will toss a Minor League deal his way and invite him to Spring Training.

“We know nothing is imminent, but hopefully we keep in contact with them,” said Aurilia, who played at St. John’s. “It’s just been preliminary, but they said there could be some interest down the road. So I’m concentrating more on just making sure my body is ready. I still have the desire to compete and play. I can contribute. I’ve been throwing, swinging the bat and actually feel pretty good.”

Aurilia, 38, hit .213 with 2 home runs and 16 RBIs in 60 games with the San Francisco Giants in 2009. He is a lifetime .275 hitter and has experience throughout the infield. You can see Aurilia’s contract history and statistics here.
