MLB Rumors: Sheffield, Bonds, B.J. Upton, Dodgers at Hunters house, Bergesen, Matt Cain

Here are few links to follow on Friday:

  • USA Today says that Gary Sheffield almost had a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, the team signed Adam LaRoche which left no room for Sheffield.
  • In the meantime, USA Today reports that Sheffield is working out with Barry Bonds.
  • The St. Petersburg Times says that the arbitration outcome between B.J. Upton and the Tampa Bay Rays will not result in a chasm between the two parties. The two sides are about $300,000 apart ($3 million versus $3.3 million).
  • The Orange County Register says that LHP Trevor Reckling, Dodger Matt Kemp and former Dodger, Gary Sheffield are living and working out at Torii Hunter’s house.
  • According to the Baltimore Sun, Orioles’ right-handed starter Brad Bergesen will not fully participate in Spring Training for at least 10 days after pitchers and catcher report because a of a strained right shoulder capsule that he injured during the filming of an Orioltes TV commercial in December.
  • ESPN Insider wonders if the the Giants will be able to keep right-hander Matt Cain beyond his 2011 option year. Both Cain and Tim Lincecum’s deals will expire during the same year.
  • The Los Angeles Angels are interested in Cuban shortstop Adeiny Hechevarria. According to El Nuevo Herald, Hechevarria could land a contract that tops $8 million.
