According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, free agent first baseman Mike Jacobs signed a deal with the New York Mets. The deal will pay Jacobs $900,000 if he makes the big league club plus a possible $1.15 million in incentives.
Jacobs will have the opportunity to compete with Daniel Murphy and Fernando Tatis for time at first base.
Jacobs, 30, played in 128 games with the Kansas City Royals in 2009 where he hit .228 with 19 home runs and drove in 61 RBIs. He played with the Mets in 2005. You can see Jacobs’ contract history and statistics here.
