Vladimir Guerrero Rumors: Texas Rangers offer one-year $7 million

By Allan

Update 1/8 17:35: According to Jon Heyman, Guerrero and the Rangers are in serious talks now.  The deal reportedly will be about $5 million plus incentives.

1/7 14:17: According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, the Texas Rangers have offered Vladimir Guerrero a one-year $7 million contract, but it’s not clear if he’s interested.

The Texas Rangers need a right-handed designated hitter, and they have shown interest in Vladimir Guerrero all Winter.  However, given the surplus of designated hitters on the market, the Rangers have been playing the waiting game.

Currently, Jonny Gomes, Xavier Nady and Guerrero are right-handed hitters that are looking for work.  According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, it was expected that the Rangers probably would not have offered more than $5 million for a one-year contract – the same deal that Bobby Abreu was offered last season when signing with the Angels.
