The Minnesota Twins added a right-handed arm to the bullpen by signing Clay Condrey to a one-year contract.
Condrey, 34,was 6-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 45 games for the National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies. He made $650,000 with the team last season.
“He’s been through two pennant races with the Phillies the last two years, and he’s pitched well,” Twins general manager Bill Smith said. “He’s a little bit more of a veteran that can pitch in the middle of the bullpen. We think that can help us.”
By signing Condrey, the Twins release right-hander Bobby Keppel to make room on the 40 man roster. Keppel was 1-1 with a 4.83 ERA over 54 innings pitched while with the Twins in 2009.
