The San Francsico Chronicle reports that the San Francisco Giants have traded right-handed pitcher Merkin Valdez to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.

Valdez, 28, was designated for assignment last week to make room for Aubrey Huff, who the Giants signed to a one-year, $3 million deal.

Vadez was 2-1 with a 5.66 ERA in 48 games with the Giants in 2009. You can see Valdez’s contract history and statistics here.
