Randy Johnson announces retirement

According to today’s conference call Randy Johnson has announced his retirement.  According to the call, Johnson says he “wanted to go out on (his) own terms”.

Johnson contemplated coming back for another season.  He did not want to rush into the decision based on what he learned from other players retiring and coming back.

Johnson, 46, finished his career with a record of 303-166, a 3.29 ERA and 4875 strikeouts.  He played with the Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants.
