Orioles and Tejada agree to 1 year $6 million contract

By Allan

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Baltimore Orioles and free agent Miguel Tejada have agreed on a one-year, $6 million contract pending a physical.

“I’ve reached a deal for one season and $6 million. I know it’s less than what I made last year, but the market has changed and I feel happy to be able to play in the major leagues,” Tejada told The Associated Press during a phone interview from Miami.

Tejada, 35, last played with the Orioles from 2004-2007 when he was their starting shortstop. He will be playing third base this time around since Cesar Izturis is the Orioles shortstop.

Tejada, hit .313 with 14 home runs and 86 RBIs for the Houston Astros in 2009 while making a base salary of $13 million.
