New York Yankees Rumors: Preparing for Pujols, Mauer, Fielder or Gonzalez?

By Allan

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune writes about how the New York Yankees approached this off season and what to expect for them next off season.  Rogers anticipates that when Albert Pujols, Joe Mauer, Prince Fielder and Adrian Gonzalez will hit free agency within two years, the Yankees will be chasing after them.

Executives believe the Yankees and Red Sox sat out the Matt Holliday sweepstakes this off season because the teams are setting themselves up to have the most flexibility to land one of the aforementioned superstars.  In preparation, the Yankees did not sign a DH to a long-term deal  in order to accommodate one of these players as well as keeping Mark Teixeira at first base.

The Red Sox have been pursuing Gonzalez this off season, but nothing more than talks have occurred.
