New York Mets Trade Rumors: Luis Castillo for Red Sox Mike Lowell?
ByUpdate 13:35: Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated Tweets: #mets dont seem gung-ho over castillo for lowell. personally, i like it. it’d give them a shot at o-dog, who’d be great!
According to Jerry Crasninck of ESPN, Tweets: I just heard that Red Sox have talked to the Mets about a Mike Lowell-for-Luis Castillo trade. Not sure how serious it is.
However, Rob Bradford of WEEI follows-up with a Tweet: A source familiar with the negotiations says that Mike Lowell-Luis Castillo swap not close #redsox #mets.
The Red Sox agreed to a deal with Adrian Beltre on Monday, so now they need to get rid of the incumbent Lowell. The team tried to trade Mike Lowell and $9 million of his $12 million dollar salary for 2010 to the Texas Rangers a few weeks ago, but that deal fell through when doctors discovered the injury to his thumb. Now that his thumb is repaired and is expected to return by Spring Training, a team in need of third base help may find themselves in a buyer’s market.
One team in need of a third baseman are the Minnesota Twins. They were interested in San Diego Padres’ third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff and they are expected to scout free-agent third baseman Joe Crede.
If the Lowell-Castillo deal does not occur, then this will be the second time that both teams have failed at moving those players.
