Johnny Damon Rumors: Going back to Yankees?

By Allan

Johnny Damon has been searching for a new employer all off season, but his salary demands have priced himself out of most situations.  His agent, Scott Boras, has reportedly asked for at least two-years for $20 million.  The San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves have been linked to the Damon, but have not made an offer.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, “some executives with other teams are absolutely convinced that Damon will wind up back with the Yankees.”  However, the Yankees are under the assumption that Damon is going elsewhere, so “he’s probably going to have to pick up the phone and make it happen, and soon.”  According to the Boston Globe, it’s believed the Yankees are thinking along the $6-7 million range, and Damon is not willing to take almost a 50 percent pay cut.

The Atlanta Braves would be ideal since Damon lives a few minutes from their Disney spring training complex.  “Atlanta would be great,’’ he said. “I’m wide open. There are a handful of teams who, in my opinion, could win and I’d like to see what kind of availability there would be with those clubs.’’
