According to several sources, free agent right-handed pitcher Joel Pineiro has agreed to a two-year $16 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
Pineiro, 31, went 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA over 214 innings with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2009 while making $7.5 million. It was believed that the Dodgers and Mets were top contenders for Pineiro before he signed with the Angels.
Now with Pineiro off the board, teams that are in need of a starting pitcher will start to focus on free agent right-hander Vicente Padilla.
