Jack Cust signs one-year $2.65 million deal with Oakland Athletics

By Allan

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that DH and OF Jack Cust is has signed a one-year $2.65 million deal to return to the Oakland Athletics.  With incentives, Cust can make $3 million.

The A’s did not offer Cust arbitration last month, and in doing so they probably saved $1 million.  Had both parties gone to arbitration, Cust may have made $4 million or more.

It was rumored last month that Cust had 2-3 offers on the table possibly from the Giants, Royals and Tigers.

Cust earned $2.8 million in 2009 with the A’s while hitting 25 home runs, driving in 70 runs and hitting .240 over 149 games.  You can see Jack Cust’s entire contract history and statistics here.
