In a radio interview with CKAC Sports, former All Star Eric Gagne said that he has a tryout with the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon in Arizona. “I’m very excited to have this chance,” Gagne said in the interview.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. was asked about Gagne. He responded, “we’re just going to take a look, just to see what he’s doing, but we don’t have any expectations, at all. Just chalk it up to not leaving any stone unturned. There are a lot of (pitchers) out there who are not signed. And we’re just keeping our eyes open.”

The Phillies are looking for bullpen help now that closer Brad Lidge may miss the start of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

Gagne’s contract was voided last season by the Milwaukee Brewers for failing his physical. As a starter in the independent Canadian-American League last summer, Gagne had a 6-6 record with a 4.65 ERA in 17 starts.
