Eric Byrnes Rumors: To be released by Diamondbacks?
ByUpdate 12:00: It’s official. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic Tweets that Byrnes has been designated for assignment.
Just following up on a rumor from yesterday. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic says that once the Adam LaRoche deal becomes official, the Diamondbacks may need to make a roster move and the candidate to be dropped may be Eric Byrnes. Byrnes has one-year left on his three-year contract. He’s owed $11 million.
The plan is to have LaRoche at first and Conor Jackson will play left. The D-backs have the option to trade Byrnes, but ESPN says that the team wants to avoid the distraction of having Byrnes at Spring Training while he is being shopped.
