Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post reports that the Colorado Rockies have signed catcher Chris Iannetta to a three-year, $8.35 million contract.
This contract will cover Iannetta’s final three years of arbitration. The Rockies will have a club option for $5 million in 2013, the first year that Iannetta can be a free agent. Iannetta has the ability to void the club option if he’s traded before 2013.
According to information obtained by The Denver Post, Iannetta’s contract breaks down as follows: 2010: $1.75 million with $250,000 advanced as a signing bonus; 2011: $2.55 million; 2012: $3.55 million.
Ianetta made $415,000 in 2009 while hitting 16 home runs, driving in 52 RBI’s and had a batting average of .228 while starting approximately half of the Rockies games behind the plate.
