Chipper Jones Rumors: Retiring soon?

By Allan

David O’Brian of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Atlanta Brave’s third baseman, Chipper Jones, might retire after the upcoming season if he doesn’t play better than he did in 2009.

Jones, who has 3 years and $42 million left on his contract, says, “I’m on a year-to-year basis right now. If I go out and produce and have the same kind of season I always have had, everything will be fine. But I make no bones about it: There’s certain parts of this lifestyle that I’m sick of. Quite frankly, I’ve lived out of suitcases for 20 years and I’m kind of tired of it.”

Jones, entering his 17th season, hit 17 home runs, drove in 71 RBI’s and had a batting average of .264 in 2009.  You can see Jones contract history and statistics here.
