Now that relief pitcher Bob Howry has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the San Francisco Giants will need to find a right-handed arm for their bullpen.
According to Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, he Tweets that the San Francisco front office has brought up Chan Ho Park’s name as a possible successor to Howry.
Park would be a good fit the Giant’s system since he can both pitch out of the bullpen and be a starter. The Giants have a pitching rotation of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Barry Zito and Jonathan Sanchez with the fifth spot undecided.
Right-hander Kiko Colero’s name has been rumored as a possible Giant’s signing, but he’s been almost exclusively used as a relief pitcher (1 game start in his career).
Park was 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. Of the 45 games he appeared in, he started 7 games. He made $2.5 million in 2009, so he would be an affordable player for the cost conscious Giants.
