Carlos Delgado Rumors: Mets 'very interested'

Update 1/10 10:25: According to The Boston Globe, the Orioles are very interested in Delgado.  They could use him as a DH or a first baseman.

Update 1/7 15:06:  According to Ed Prcie of FanHouse.com, he Tweets#Mets expected to scout Carlos Delgado this weekend with Carolina of the Puerto Rican winter league.

1/5 2:38: According to NBC Sports, the New York Mets and the Baltimore Orioles have shown interest in free agent Carlos Delgado.

Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com confirms the interest by the Mets, “One day after Carlos Delgado made his return from hip surgery in the Puerto Rican Winter League, Newsday attributed “a person familiar with the club’s thinking” in reporting that the Mets are “very interested” in bringing the lefty-hitting slugger back.”  Delgado is hoping that by playing in the winter league he can prove that his surgically repaired hip is healthy enough to play in the Major Leagues again.

The free agent first baseman should expect an incentive-laden deal given that he’s coming back from an injury and it’s a buyer’s markets for teams.
