Lyle Spencer of MLB.com reports that that Los Angeles Angels have extended the contract of infielder Maicer Izturis through the 2012 season. According to the Associated Press, the deal is worth $10 million.
“Izzy’s a guy who can hit anywhere in the lineup, and he’s an outstanding defender at three positions,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
The Angles have three arbitration-eligible players left to sign: starting pitcher Joe Saunders, shortstop Erick Aybar and catcher Jeff Mathis.
Izturis, 29, hit .300 with 8 home runs and 65 RBIs for the Angels in 2009. You can see his contract history and statistics here.
