Congratulations to Andre Dawson on his election to the Baseball Hall of Fame. “The Hawk” made the Hall of Fame on his ninth appearance on the election ballot.
Dawson received 420 of 539 votes giving him 77.9%. A player needs 405 votes or 75% of the votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) to make it into the Hall of Fame.
Bert Blyleven received 74.2% and Roberto Alomar received 73.7%. Both players will probably make it into the Hall of Fame next year.
Dawson played 21 season for the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins. He hit 438 home runs, stole 314 bases, and had a career .279 batting average. You can see Dawson’s statistic history here.
