Washington Nationals to sign Jason Marquis
ByUpdate 12/22 10:48am PST: The Washington Post reports today that Washington Nationals GM, Mike Rizzo, originallly wanted free agent right-hander John Garland instead of Jason Marquis, who they agreed to a two-year deal with on Monday. The report says that Garland hedged on a deal and prefers a West Coast team.
I wonder which team on the West Coast interested Garland? This original preference hopefully won’t leave a sour taste in Marquis’ mouth.
Update 12:30 PST: Mark Feinsand of The NY Daily News Tweets: Jason Marquis signs two-year, $15 million deal with Nationals. Cross another pitcher off the Yankees’ potential list.
Update 12:03 PST: Jon Heyman of SI Tweets: by signing with nationals (via MASN), jason marquis’ 10-year streak of playing for playoff teams will be tested
MASN reports that the Washington Nationals will sign Jason Marquis. The signing of Marquis probably means that free agent pitchers Jon Garland and Doug Davis will not sign with the Nationals.
