Wang would interest St Louis' Dave Duncan
ByStltoday.com reports that St. Louis Cardinal’s pitching coach, Dave Duncan, would be interested in free agent pitcher Chien-Ming Wang. Duncan was quoted on whether or not he would be interested in Wang, and he responded, “Absolutely. He has been a real quality guy that can go out there and control the game. You’d have to look closely into his physical status, and whether or not you can trust him to stay healthy.”
The Cardinals have been focused on signing free agent outfielder Matt Holliday, but they also have needs for a fifth starter. Currently they have a rotation of Adam Wainwright, Chris Carpenter, Kyle Lohse, newly signed Brad Penny and an undetermined fifth pitcher.
Wang is overcoming several injuries over the last couple of season with the most recent being a right shoulder problem. He may be worth the risk as a number five starter if he comes cheap. He has a 55-26 record with a 4.16 ERA over 5 seasons with the Yankees. You can see his stats here.
Should the Card sign a free agent fifth starter? Is Wang too much of a risk? Should they promote somebody from within to take the fifth spot?
