ESPN’s Jason Stark reports that the Philadelphia Phillies are shopping starting pitcher Joe Blanton to free up payroll to spend on a free agent.  Blanton’s 2009 contract paid him $5 million.  Through arbitration this year, he’ll probably get a 1 year contract upwards to $7 million.  It’s puzzling that the Phillies are trying to trade Blanton.  It is possible that the club may enter the Roy Halladay lottery and trading away Blanton will be their first step.
