New York Yankees Rumors: The fifth starter?

By Allan

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that a rival executive of the Yankees said that neither Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain should be in the Yankee’s rotation next season.

Instead, they should keep both Hughes and Chamberlain in the bullpen and make Chad Gaudin their fifth starter.  He goes on to say that if the Yankees do such a thing, they are far more likely to use Alfredo Aceves as the fifth starter.

Hughes and Chamberlain would be used primarily as setup for Marinao RiveraDamaso Marte would be the left handed specialist.

Another possibility would be to trade Gaudin and/or Mitre, but the Yankees may want to keep the pitching depth to reduce the workload on their four starters of C.C. Sabtahia, A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettitte and Javier Vazquez.
