Kelvim Escobar agrees to a one-year major league contract with Mets

15:48pm PST: Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that Escobar’s one year deal with guarantee him $1.25 million. The contract includes $2 million in potential bonuses based on games pitched, and an additional $1 million for games finished, along with more potential bonuses for awards. Escobar would also earn a $125,000 bonus for making the Mets’ Opening Day roster.

Update 12/26 0:03am: Jon Heyman of SI.com confirms that the New York Mets and RHP Kelvim Escobar have agreed to a one-year, major leage contract.

According to Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog.com, Kelvim Escobar agreed to a one-year, major league contract with the New York Mets. It was previously reported that Escobar was offered a minor league contract.

Escobar, 33, missed the entire 2008 season with a labral tear, underwent surgery, started one game in 2009 and missed the remainder of the season with shoulder irritation.
