Correct me if I’m wrong, but the concept of sign-and-trade is probably not applicable to MLB since there’s not salary cap or limitations to the money a team can offer a free agent. As opposed to the NBA where sign and trades are common since restricted free agents have incentives to stay with their current team. In other words, they can make a lot more by signing with their current team who later trades that player to another team.

If the Marlins want Uribe why would they wait around for the Giants to sign him and then trade for him? I cannot remember time where a sign-and-trade deal was ever executed in baseball. If the Marlins were that interested in him they would simply go and sign him.

It is probably moot anyways as DeRosa’s signing likely kills any chance of them dealing for Uggla now.

Sanchez pitched a no-no, so he’s got selling power for the Giants. The Giant’s fans don’t want to see Sanchez go.

@Jaglubnan – are you proposing that they trade Uribe and Uggla straight up? If so, then I don’t think that’s going to happen. The giants need to package somebody with Uribe in order for the Marlins to bite.

Interesting, just saw your previous article on Randy Johnson, but I doubt Randy would be a good starting pitcher… he’s too injury prone after that shoulder injury last season.

However like I’ve been saying for a while, J.Sanchez is too much for Uggla.
But do you think if the Giants sign Uribe, they might trade him to the Marlins? Cuz I saw an article saying that if the Marlins trade Uggla, they would have to find a way to replace him at 2nd. So if Uribe is included in a trade offer to the Marlins for Uggla, that might be interesting…
