Probably because Holliday is not A-Rod. The Yanks knew if A-Rod were serious about bailing the Red Sox, Cubs, and probably the Mets and Angels were ready to swoop in and snap him up.

The Cards do not have the same sense of urgency because they are fairly confident there are no other teams seriously considering Holliday right now.

So why don't the Cards give Holliday a set amount of time to decide? Do an Alex Rodriguez thing. I can't remember all the details from his last contract negotiations, but didn't the Yankees give him an expiration date to their offer where Arod just walked away only to come back a few days later and a few million dollars less?

Boras always says he has multiple offers even when he doesn't. It is his MO. Remember how he cliamed to have several offers on the table for Man-Ram last year when in reality the Dodgers were the only team that ever gave Manny a significant offer of any kind?

Do not be shocked if Holliday signs with the Cards a month from now with no significant changes to the offer currently on the table. The reason the Cards are not upping the offer is because they do not think there are any other teams in serious negotiations with Boras on Holliday.

Maybe it's the Met's spreading the rumors to get Bay to sign quickly

Al, I would not doubt it. From everything I have read the Cards are the only team that have made a serious offer on Holliday.

bigRed, I think the $16 mil for 8 years is overstated. From what I have seen since the rumored offer was made the deal only guarantees five years and Boras appears to have convinced himself Holliday should get a deal comparable to what Teixeira got from NY. The only problem is with teams like the Yankees and Red Sox not in on the bidding driving the price up for Holliday he is not going to get anything remotely close to what Tex got.

I don't understand why Holliday won't take the Card's offer. $16M for 8-years is pretty good.

I'm wondering if Boras is using this as a media ploy to put pressure on the Cards to up their offer.
