Alex Cora re-signs with Mets for 1 year $2 million deal
ByUtility middle infielder Alex Cora has resigned with the New York Mets for 1 year at $2 million. Cora, 35, can earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses: $250,000 each for 80, 90, 100 and 110 starts. His $2 million 2011 contract will become guaranteed if he makes 80 starts in 2010.

It’s unusual to see a bench player such as Cora to have a contract filled with performance bonuses and a vesting option especially for a player that played in 81 games in 2009. The Met’s have to hope that these bonuses do not kick, if they do either shortstop Jose Reyes or second baseman Luis Castillo have been injured or have failed miserably.
